International Literacy
Day
September 8th, 2008 is an occasion to celebrate the importance of
Literacy to individuals, communities and societies, and to create
awareness that people who struggle with literacy skills have barriers
preventing them from participating fully in the societies in which they
live. It was established by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1966 and is celebrated on
September 8th each year.
